[Verse 1]
The sirens finally choke on their own sound
Dust settles on the skeletons of the ground
I’m picking at the petals of a blackened rose
Watching how the iron river stops and slows
The pomegranate seeds are bitter in my teeth
There’s a rotting kingdom living underneath
I’ve been wearing shadows like a corset tight
But the sun is bleeding through the edge of night

[Chorus]
Oh, Lady Freedom, come unbind the gate

You’re looking pale from all the years of hate
I’ve got dirt beneath my manicured nails
Watching how the fire dies and the iron pales
It’s quiet now, a heavy, hollow kind of grace
I don’t know how to wash the ash off of my face
Lady Freedom, you’re a ghost in the hall
Did we have to break the world to watch it fall?

[Verse 2]
The generals are ghosts in their oversized coats
Writing apologies in invisible notes
I’m stitching up the sky with a needle of bone
Sitting on a throne that I claim as my own
The fields are filled with flowers made of wire
Everything I loved was a funeral pyre
But the frost is melting on the soldiers’ graves
The earth is eating all the souls it saves

[Bridge]
The treaty is written in a permanent stain
We’re all just children playing games in the rain
I’m trading my crown for a handful of dirt
Learning how to live with the shape of the hurt
It’s over, it’s over, the monster is fed
There’s nothing left to do but count up the dead

[Outro]
Lady Freedom, you’re looking so thin
Let the silence crawl underneath your skin
The war is done, the bells have all cracked
There is no road to take us back
(No road to take us back)
Just the ash
Just the ash
