[Verse 1]
I checked the time
I called you when I shouldn’t have, it hurt
Did you have my number saved?
It’s probably best you never heard from me
Someone from a lifetime ago
Felt like yesterday
We were sleeping over, chasing summers
When did you grow up and change?
[Chorus]
Would I even know your face through the crowds? I let you slip away
Could I even call your name?
Wouldn’t know what’s left to say
Even when I called your name a thousand times, just like I said I would
It will never be the way, the way it was
[Verse 2]
Don’t know if you settled down with him
You might have bought a house and a car with him
Heard you’re involved, but I can’t be sure of it (Can’t be sure)
Did you run or did you walk away from me?
You knew me years ago, just the way you wanted to
You never tried to love me, tried to love me, like I do
I would’ve given more, given everything to you
You’ve had enough time to find me in this crowded room
[Chorus]
Would I even know your face through the crowds? I let you slip away
Could I even call your name?
Wouldn’t know what’s left to say
Even when I called your name a thousand times, just like I said I would
It will never be the way, the way it was
[Bridge]
Looking down on me, I think your head’s up in the clouds
I could always tell you’re never happy with yourself
Why you wanna run around and act like someone else?
It’s playing on my mind and can I tell you something else?
We were never too far away from the edge
I could only try my best till the end
I swear you’ve got my number if there’s anything that you wanna say
[Chorus]
Would I even know your face through the crowds? I let you slip away (I let you slip away)
Could I even call your name?
Wouldn’t know what’s left to say
Even when I called your name a thousand times, just like I said I would
It will never be the way, the way it was
[Outro]
The way it was
The way it was
The way it was
The way it was
The way it was
The way, the way it was
