[Verse 1]
I’ve swung through the concrete jungle many a time or two
I’ve had all kinds of trouble with some folks, yes, it’s true
Once I start talking and they get amused
Start making all kinds of judgments, thinking I’m a fool

[Chorus]
Calm yourself down, mister, I ain’t planning on sticking around
I only want to play my music, then I’m heading back down south

[Verse 2]
I’ve been to London, Ireland and Germany
I’ve had folks that would shake my hand and some that hated me
Good ones and bad ones, most folks, they are fine
But most folks are nicer to me south of the Mason-Dixon Line

[Chorus]
All this hustling and running and gunning, jumping from town to town
It’s been real nice to see your city, but Lord, I’m heading back down south

[Verse 3]
South Alabama is wherе I belong
That place got a hook in me, so I can’t stay gonе long
LA is pretty and Denver is pretty fun
My boots are aching, Momma, for a taste of some Georgia mud

[Chorus]
Calm yourself down, people, you know I can’t hang around
I got a pretty wife waiting and I’m heading back down south

[Outro]
I’m headed back down south
That’s where I’m going, I’m gonna go
That’s where I’m going, I’m on my way
Lord, I gotta go, oh, I gotta go
I gotta go, I said I’m gonna go
I’m headed back down south

I’m headed back down south
I’m headed back down south
I’m headed back down south
