[Verse 1]
Step off the plane, hit by a heat wave
A whole town stuck in place, lost in the haze

[Chorus]
Oh, what happens upstate
Stays upstate, stays upstate
Oh, time slowed to a crawl
Nothing’s changed, changed at all

[Verse 2]
Once seemed so big, this little town
What’s left keeping everyone else around?

[Chorus]
Oh, what happens upstate
Stays upstate, stays upstate
Oh, time slowed to a crawl
Nothing’s changed, changed at all

[Bridge]
Pass by the high school and the train tracks leading home
The closed down pizza parlors from Westmoreland to Rome
The band by the gazebo with the same old marching tunes
The marquees and the billboards with the same old upstate news

[Verse 3]
At night the fireflies light up the lawn
Guess I miss the peace and quiet, but I’m already gone

[Chorus]
Oh, what happens upstate
Stays upstate, stays upstate
Oh, time slowed to a crawl
Nothing’s changed, changed at all

[Bridge]

Pass by the high school and the train tracks leading home
The closed down pizza parlors from Westmoreland to Rome
The band by the gazebo with the same old marching tunes
The marquees and the billboards with the same old upstate news
