[Verse 1]
Somewhere on the long trail
Pistol on the side
Talking to some old friends
They whisper in the night
Grab a bottle or a Bible
Woman or a wife
But it’s time for a wretched old man like me
To leave it all behind

[Chorus]
Have mercy on my soul

I’m praying on my knees
But all the wrong I’ve done
Have left it’s mark on me
You resting on my shoulder
They speak to me so sweet
Kissed by an angel
But the devil’s got a brand on me

[Verse 2]
Drinking in the morning
Made my mama cry
I could fill up a dried out river with the tears from her eyes
Gotta get my life together
‘Cause you don’t get another try
If I’m out of second chances
I won’t leave without a fight

[Chorus]
Show mercy on my soul
I’m praying on my knees
But all the wrong I’ve done
Have left it’s mark on me
You resting on my shoulder
They speak to me so sweet
Kissed by an angel

But the devil’s got a brand on me

[Outro]
Show mercy on my soul
I’m praying on my knees
But all the wrong I’ve done
Have left it’s mark on me
You resting on my shoulder
They speak to me so sweet
Kissed by an angel
But the devil’s got a brand on me
Devil’s got a brand on me
